LOCATION RECCE (RECONNAISSENCE)-Done by me

SCOUTING OUT

Q - What were your first thoughts when looking at the location(s)? (Online & In Person)

A -When I first saw iHASCO I thought this was the right location for filming due to from the outside it looked like it had the right amount of space to fulfil our requirements.

PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE

Q - What pictures did you take of your location(s)? Please put them in this section and comment on why they are appropriate to film in.

A -I think the location is appropriate to film in due to the space and there was no reverb which worked perfectly in our favour.

DIMENSIONS
Q - How big was the location? Does it fulfill all your needs for your project?

A -My first impressions were right for this location as I thought it was quite big so the size would be more than enough for us to film easily with no problems. With this assumption I was right as when we were filming we found it easier to move around as it was spacious; luckily this was not a problem. Also we had to find a location with no reverb and when we filmed and listened to the audio there was no reverb.

LIGHTING

Q)What was the quality of lighting like within the location? Was it natural (sunlight, fire) or artificial (bulbs/torches? Perhaps some pictures of what the lighting within the space with natural lighting and artificial lighting would be beneficial for your project?

A) There were big windows in the location, but when we filmed it was dark so we used artificial light. There were some shots where we experimented with the lighting for example when we dimmed the lights and there were some shots where we turned on the light switches and that was very powerful.

SAFETY
Q - How safe is the location? Is it near any roads? Is it in an area which is out of bounds?

(REMEMBER FOR EVERY NEW LOCATION YOU ASSESS FOR YOUR PROJECT, YOU NEED TO HAVE A RISK ASSESSMENT AND LOCATION RECCE FORM THAT MATCHES THE LOCATION FOR THE PROJECT.)

A -The location is quite safe however there is a car park outside the building which gives a hazard as we need to look out for cars. Other than that the location is quite safe as there is no one really there. The location is quiet which was good when we were filming as we did not have any outside noise.

RESTRICTIONS & LEGAL MATTERS

Q - Do you know if the land is owned by anyone? Are you sure you have permission to film on there? If not, it might be best to find another location with easy access. If so, we will need to see a permission to film document included within your work.(Including your Permission to Film document/email/slip on here will also let your client know that you have the correct access in where you need to film.)

A - We filmed in Neve's dad's work office so we got permission from him.

Audio planning

To make sure that our audio would be of the best quality we borrowed a boom pole, Lav mic, Shotgun and a H4n digital recorder. We chose the Boom Pole as it means that we would capture impeccable audio without being in the frame which meant we do various shots and not be worried about the audio not being picked up. Due to a Lav mic being small and discreet it can be strategically placed close to the subject's mouth without no one seeing it. Shotgun mics are ideal microphones used in film due to their compact size, reliable versatility and excellent audio quality. The result of a shotgun mic is clearer audio and decreased background noise. Finally we picked the H4n digital recorder as it is a two track recorder and it is very versatile recorder. If there is any audio that does not come clear then we would use the process of ADR to make the audio of good quality by using equipment at college.

With the Foley audio I would create them with the footsteps in the scene by recording people walking. Also with the Detective 2 pushing The Reporter I would add some foley audio for that particular scene.
